Cloud BPM: Whats in it???
BPM vendors are flying and trying hard to get themselves cloudy. i.e. to provide their BPM offerings packaged in cloud model. Apart from few concerns like security, confidentiality and lose of control, cloud is getting good traction among CIOs and other IT communities. Since BPM will take role as an extended arm of secured on-premise systems, being cloudy seems to be very promising. Below are the points which prove Cloudy BPM to be a boon.
- Small enterprises can try out BPM through SaaS model as they don’t want to shell out huge initial investment dollars
- BPM handles more of processes related data but still confidential data is stored in on-premise systems which make cloud BPM a secured option
- Cloud helps organizations for a better, easier and faster transformation from chaotic Business/IT Architectures
- Cloud BPM supports governance for shared processes in an integrated manner by facilitating interaction across organizations in different geographies
- Anywhere, Anytime access to all the business processes which makes it easy for people to access the applications outside the firewall
- Better utilization of Client Access Licenses (CAL) ???
One typical concern of porting BPM on to the cloud is the management of integration between on-premise systems and Cloud BPM. e.g.: connecting an existing on-premise DMS application outside the firewall with BPM. This needs careful planning and if we plan to port most of such application silos on to the cloud then it’s not going to be a big issue. The cloud is still gloomy which instigates frequent debates among IT community. We will look into those aspects in our next blog.
